Warks u180s are National Champions

12 July 2010 - Moat College, Leicester saw four MCCU county sides battle for championship honours. Local MP Sir Peter Soulsby welcomed players. The u180 competition guaranteed an MCCU winner with Nottinghamshire facing Warwickshire. Warks ran out winners with a 9 - 7 victory. In the new u100 competition, Warwickshire were put to the sword(s) by Essex. In the u140 competition, Nottinghamshire lost on board count to Hampshire. MCCU stalwarts Julie and Cyril Johnson were key organisers of the national 2010 counties finals.

23 June 2010 - Nottinghamshire played Yorkshire in the u140 competition and won 9-6. There was an 8 - 8 score over the boards, but Yorkshire fielded an ineligible player and were deemed to have lost that game and were docked a point for infringing the rules.

21 June 2010 - Warwickshire have two national finals teams! Warwickshire u100 easily beat Yorkshire to reach their finals whereas the u180 side scraped through on board count in their fixture against Devon. Nottinghamshire beat Essex on board count to make it an all-MCCU u180 Final. Lincolnshire go down to strong Middlesex side in their semi-finals in the Minor Counties Championship and Leicestershire lose to Suffolk in the u160. No news yet about Staffs in the Open, Leics in the Minor, Notts in the u140

24 May 2010 - A convincing win for Leicestershire in the Minor Championship to take them to the Semi-finals. But pain for Notts in the u160 quarter-finals losing narrowly to Suffolk. Nottinghamshire teams had mixed fortunes in two closely contested matches: the u140 team beat Surrey, but the u160 team lost to Suffolk.

16 May 2010 - Warks and GMC kicked out of the Open by southerners.

20 April 2010 - In the preliminary rounds, Staffordshire were successful in the u140 but Worcestershire were knocked out on board count. There was also disapointment for the Greater Manchester in the Open. Staffordshire beat Yorkshire A, Worcestershire lost to Sussex in an even match, and Greater Manchester were thrashed by Essex. Use the links from results below for match details. It has been announced that Sean Hewitt has stepped down from the role of national controller and been relieved by fellow Leicester organiser Cyril Johnson.

March 2010 - Jack has had to stand down from Controlling the ECF stages and his place is taken by Sean Hewitt (Leics). Now that the union stages are complete the ECF draw has been updated to provide names for nominated counties. After over 800 games in the County matches, seventeen MCCU teams qualify. Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Nottinghamshire each have four qualifying teams, Leicestershire two, and Greater Manchester, Lincolnshire and Worcestershire one each. The ECF stage draw for MCCU teams is below.

February 2010 - Jack Rudd, National Controller, has published the draw for the national Stages of the County competitions on the ECF website. The draw shows that MCCU have three places in the Open, u160, u140 and u120; two places in the Minor Counties, and u180; and one place in the new u100 event.

October 2009 - The draw for the national stages will be made in January when the National Controller knows how many teams in each section can be nominated by each union. When the union stages are complete teams' names are put into this draw according to unions' team nominations In the case of the MCCU, the union stage should be complete by the end of March 2010. After consultations with counties, the MCCU Events Director, Cyril, will nominate two MCCU teams for each of the sections. In sections that have 5 or more team entries, there will be three nominations.
