Two Grand Prix This Year!

Who can compete?

Players who are eligible to play for one of the MCCU counties: Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, Herefordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire can compete in these two Grand Prix.

Midlands Grand Prix

This competition first run in 2007 determines the title of the Midlands Individual Champion, offers a nominated place and bursary for entry in the British Championship to be held in Sheffield next August. Any player who is eligible to play for one of the MCCU counties: Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, Herefordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire. The Midlands Grand Prix includes five Standard Play Open Events: Manchester Autumn (3-5 Sep); HE Atkins Memorial, Leicester (1-3 Oct), Warwickshire Open (12-13 Feb), Nottingham Open (2-3 Apr) and Bolton Open (late Apr TBC). The more tournaments you play in, the greater your chance of winning this competition. Use the navigation on the left to read the eligibility rules and method of scoring. The Controller is Cyril Johnson to whom any questions should be directed. The 2010-11 leader board and final scores and winners of previous Midlands Grand Prix are also avilable using the navigation on the left of this page.

Midlands Under-150 Rapid Grand Prix

This new U150 competition has been instituted to for non-elite players. It will run during the 2010-11 season. Events are allowed to enter throughout the season. So far, the Leamington Rapidplay (12 Sep) and Birmingham Rapidplay at Quinborne, Birmingham (24 Oct), Bolton (14 November), Stockport (6 February) and Manchester (6 March) are included.
