With only ten minutes left for play, Manchester were a point behind 5½-6½. The Mancunians fought their way back to level the scores and claim victory on board count tie-break. The star at the end was captain Jon Lonsdale who admitting he was "making a hash of the Lucena position with about 4 minutes left on the clock" eventually forced the win.
