Neil Graham reports. The Midlands Team County final inaugural move was made by Councillor Gail Turner for Nottingham's board 1, Mike Barnes. The match was closely contested. Leicestershire took an early lead but Notts were always in close contention; however after 13 games were declared Leicestershire still lead by 7-6. Board 14 was drawn, then Notts drew level through Alexander Combie. The result was decided in the last three minutes of play when local player Pablo Padilla Cabero on Board 2 was able to force a win against Alan Byron in a dramatic finish.
