Neil Graham reports: Current National Champions Kent came looking to retain their title: Notts to break the southern counties stranglehold on this section since it was introduced six years ago. Kent's top board junior soon scored a win but at the halfway stage the scores were tied at 3-3. Notts then scored vital victories in mid-order and established a 6-4 lead with two games to finish. The vital game was on board 4 where an exposed Kentish king was forced into the open and mated. The last board to finish was a Kent win but the Notts team were already celebrating their victory after an excellent team performance.
