Neil Graham reports. Notts reached their second successive Under-140 Final but were again unable to take the title. At no time in the match did Notts look to have the championship within their grasp. Plenty of draws and three Kent wins saw the southerners take a 6-3 lead after nine result declarations. Notts staged a mini revival with their first wins on Boards 12 and 8, but Kent quickly replied to lead 7½-5½ with three games left. Had the match finished at 8-8, Kent would have won on Board Count so three wins were required. There was no hope that Notts could achieve this with a desperado Notts bishop trying to contain a Kent passed pawn, knight and bishop on one of the boards. After a further draw, the bishop game was agreed drawn to win the match for Kent. Some consolation for Notts came in the last game to finish which gave Notts their third win but it was too late.
